Gold Country Moms' Night Out

May Mom's Night Out

Friday, May 23:

Annabelle's has updated their event calendar, and the night we're there, a band called the Golden Cadillacs will be playing. They start at 9, so we've got plenty of time to gab before the action starts.

 News and Rumors:

  • Next month in addition to the regularly scheduled Mom's Night Out, I'll be organizing round 2 of trivia night. Gold Country Mom's members and their spouses will be invited to join me and mine at Streets of London Pub in Folsom. Date TBD, but it is quite likely that we will have multiple teams' worth of people joining us. Prizes are distributed by the pub to the worthy, and, hey! It's a pub! School's out, so arrange for a sitter.
  • Placerville will be starting up a Wednesday night Farmer's Market by the Bell Tower starting June 11.
  • What's the Scoop is a new ice cream parlor that just opened on Main Street. It's got an old fashioned bar with the big chairs the kids like to sit on and plenty of desserts! It's a really great space with plenty of room for a whole lot of people. I'm thinking, kid's karaoke party. If anyone has a karaoke machine and some kid-friendly karaoke CDs, let's get Lisa Bertram on the horn and plan this puppy.

MNO Recap

Mom's Night Out started at the Placerville Brewing Company and was followed by Forgetting Sarah Marshall at the Placerville theater. We had quite a turnout! Thanks to Karen (and her cool friend!), Elizabeth, Angela, and Carina for making this such a fun night out.

My Hawaiian name is Kaki. What's yours?

Mark May 23 on the calendar for the next Mom's Night Out at Annabelle's Chocolate Lounge. Dads will have completely forgotten about the mixer by then--I swear!

Decision Made: Just show up
Everything is coming together, and a horde of attention-starved mothers will descend on the Placerville movie theater Friday at 7 pm sharp to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall. For anyone interested, we will be meeting up at 6 at the Placerville Brewery beforehand.

It's Decision Time
Mood:  caffeinated

Although we need to wait for the official Thursday movie schedule to actually hardcore plan this thing, it looks like we're leaning toward Forgetting Sarah Marshall in Placerville. If for some reason, the movie is no longer playing in Placerville come Thursday, we'll have another decision to make: see a movie in Placerville or see Sarah Marshall in El Dorado Hills. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

If you have feelings either way or are interested in a carpool, comment here or send me a note.

April MNO Planning Committee
Mood:  chatty

It's too early to plan this thing*, since we don't know what's playing where, but after taxes are done we can reasonably predict things. I'll post soon after the 15th, so check back if you're interested!

* Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay opens on April 25th! Fate? BUT if you don't want to see a movie with a bong in it, Forgetting Sarah Marshall opens the week before. Actually, I can't guarantee that will be bong-free.

Team Memory Loss Takes Fifth Place?
Mood:  quizzical

I forget what the actual hard stats were, but my best recollection is that Gold Country Mom's Team Memory Loss got 21/30 questions correct making us very competitive in a room packed full of younger and possibly childless eggheads with lots of free time in which to consume useless facts (much in the way that I've been consuming wayward Easter candy).

That score won't get you into Harvard, but it's really a good score for trivia night at the Streets of London. Five intrepid souls faced certain embarrassment and came out mostly victorious: Jackie Lyons, Jennifer Thelen, Angela Tregembo, myself, and Jennifer's sister Ann.

Do you know who played John Boy on the Waltons? I knew for about a half hour, but now you have to go ask Jackie Lyons. She pulled that one out at the last minute. Impressive!

This event will be repeated come summertime.

Every night is (potentially) a MNO
Mood:  not sure

Mom's Night Out officially happens just once a month, but if you find yourself needing a night out at any time, this is a good place to get something going. Just comment here and see if anyone is up for an adventure. It's out of my hands what you people do with your free time, but I'm happy to help.

Not trying to scare the bejeezus out of you, but this is a public page on internet. Don't just be giving out your number and telling people what dark alley you'll be waiting in all alone! Use that GCM directory.

Use your head, fool!

Pub Quiz at The Streets of London Pub in Folsom

Tuesday, March 18th at 8:00 p.m.

Tuesdays night are reserved for the Pub Quiz at the Streets of London Pub in Folsom.  Prizes are awarded in this team-based quiz on such subjects as bad 80s movies, European football, and Madonna songs.  Amaze your friends with your intimate knowledge of Bronson Pinchot's career while drinking a pint of cider and eating bangers and mash.  The quiz is free, but you might want to bring some cash for a drink or two.  I'll be lying to my husband about when this event starts so I can get out of the house by 6 pm tops, so feel free to join me for the pub-style food served at this fine establishment.

Streets of London is so worth the drive to 694 E. Bidwell Street in Folsom, and I will arrange a carpool for anyone interested.  RSVP to me, Cathy White at (530)620-2190 or e-mail (cathbuzz@comcast.net) or leave a comment to this entry and it will be forwarded to me.
